Aussie neighbourhoods are really turning up the heat this week - averaging temps of 40 degrees. In the name of hydration, the time for water-cooler chats has never been more popular! But in all seriousness, like heat stress, job stress also has the potential to impact us. Below are 3 signs that you may be experiencing burn-out.
Your behaviour has changed
You may be feeling more irritable than normal - even after your morning coffee! This could include brief email responses, avoiding social events, or no longer contributing during team meetings. You feel fatigued Job burn-out can impact productivity; through a lack of energy to go that extra mile for your tasks, or arriving late to work due to exhaustion. You may find yourself just ‘going through the motions’ of your to-do list, rather than coming up with new and better ways of doing things.
Persistent head-ache You know the one. Your thoughts are scattered and you can’t concentrate, as you try to understand how you got into this mess.
Preventing job-stress: ☼ If your job requirements have heated up lately, learn to recognise your work limits and priorities. ☼ ‘Shade’ yourself from unnecessary risks such as bullying and distractions. ☼ Take rest breaks. Some examples include walking down the hall, getting a drink of water, and stretching.
